After each round, the reveal links to the page the question came from. Thanks to everyone who writes and maintains these sources.

How questions are made

  1. We pick well-known entries from each source: wiki pages, Wikidata items, a game's own data files, or the questions of an open quiz database.
  2. Drafted packs: a large language model (LLM) reads the source text and drafts a question: three clues, hardest first, plus a fun fact for the reveal. It paraphrases; it doesn't copy. A second pass checks every clue against the source and that only one answer fits.
  3. Built packs: templates turn structured facts (release year, studio, series, characters) into clues, with no LLM drafting them. Where the facts are wrong or give no clue a casual player would get (most often the easiest clue), the clue is rewritten with an AI assistant and checked against Wikipedia.
  4. Quiz packs: multiple-choice questions come from the source, and you type the answer instead of picking it. An LLM writes a hint for each question and lists the spellings we accept. A second pass checks every question and hint, and repairs or drops questions that are wrong, outdated or have two answers.
  5. A validator catches clues that give the answer away and alternative answers that clash.
  6. A person reviews a random sample of every batch plus everything the checks flagged. Questions that haven't been reviewed yet are drafts, and each pack above says how many it has.

Our scripts read sources through their public APIs, one request at a time, with an identifying user agent. No model is trained or fine-tuned on their text.

Hinkdle

Games compares release years, genres, platforms, studios, series and countries from Wikidata (CC0), grouped into broad families by us.

Champions uses region, class, resource, range and release dates from Riot Games' public Data Dragon and Universe data, under Riot's Legal Jibber Jabber policy. The damage type is our reading of Riot's own attack and magic ratings.

Privacy

We count page views and a few game events (a run or a Hinkdle finished, a room created) with Vercel Web Analytics: no cookies, nothing that identifies you. Your name and results are only stored to put you on the boards.
